Twice a year, 3000+ anglers descend upon Lake of the Ozarks (Missouri) for their shot at catching a $100,000 fish. The Big Bass Bash is a 2-day event held every Spring and Fall that pays out 35 places every 2 hours. The biggest bass overall during the event takes home a cool $100,000!
Tackle HD co-owner and the inventor of the Hi-Def Craw, Mitch Fields, took 10th place overall and 1st in the 9-11 am weigh-in period on Sunday, April 22, 2018. Good enough for a $1500 pay day!
Mitch caught the massive 6.98 lb Largemouth on the 3.75" Hi-Def Craw in our Kiwi Craw color. He was flipping shallow cover and docks in the Little Niangua arm of lake when the big fish bit.
Congrats Mitch! Way to make us proud!
June 1st and 2nd were very special days for Tackle HD Owner, Aaron Click, and our good friend Ben Hill. Aaron and Ben were invited to participate in an amazing event hosted by the Minnesota National Guard called Trolling For Troops. This event pairs volunteer guides with veteran and active duty soldiers for a day on the water. A small thank you to our service men and women for all the sacrifices they have made. The event takes place out of Camp Ripley in Little Falls, MN... Just a short distance from the famed Mille Lacs Lake and Upper Mississippi River.
Aaron, Ben, and their lovely wives left St. Clair, MO on Wednesday, May 31st and traveled through the night arriving in Minnesota on the morning of Thursday, June 1st. They immediately dropped their River Pros in the Upper Mississippi and set off to figure out the bite for the next days event. Needless to say, this famed smallmouth river did not disappoint! Numerous fish in the 3-5 lb range were more than willing to crush a Hi-Def Craw or spinnerbait!
Thursday night featured a dinner and meet and greet for everyone participating in the event. An amazing night of camaraderie and fun! Aaron and Ben were paired up with the soldiers they would be fishing with the next day and it was at that point they truly understood the full meaning of this trip!
Friday was more of the same! Aaron and Ben put their soldiers on some outstanding fish! Stories, laughs, smallmouth, and lures were flying around the boat. Life-long friends were made and an even greater respect for our military was gained. What a truly amazing event to be a part of!
Thank you to all our service men and women! Thank you to the Minnesota National Guard! Thank you to Camp Ripley! Thank you to the Upper Mississippi Smallmouth Club! And thank you to Kevin Turner, owner of River Pro Jetboats, for the invite and hospitality! Job well done Aaron and Ben... You made us proud!
April 21st through the 23rd found us at the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri for one of the biggest and best bass tournaments around... The Spring Big Bass Bash hosted by Angler in Action/Midwest Fish Tournaments! We were honored to have the opportunity to setup a booth during the pre-tournament registration and again for the post tournament awards ceremony. We'd like to give a huge thank you to all the fine folks at Midwest Fish Tournaments for allowing us to get our name and products out there. It was a first class event from beginning to end!
This is a unique 2-day amateur event the features 280 payouts and a grand prize of $70,000 for the biggest bass weighed over the course of the weekend. Tackle HD team member, Tommy Bench, spent the weekend fishing with one of our owners, Aaron Click, and was able to land a 5.49 lb Largemouth on the Hi-Def Craw (Table Rock Craw color). This fish was good enough for 5th place in the 11-1 weigh-in period on Sunday and a $700 check.
Back at the Tackle HD booth, we had the pleasure of meeting a ton of great people and some true Ozark legends (Dion Hibdon, Gary Schultz, Jack Uxa, Jim Dill, and Bob Bueltmann to name a few). We were blown away by everyone's response and reaction to our products. It was truly a humbling experience. One of the coolest parts of the weekend came when one of our most loyal customers and supporters, Jonathan Slavens, stopped by the booth to stock up on craws and jigheads. He proceeded to walk down to a bank spot just outside PB2 and catch a 6.5 lb largemouth on a craw he had just purchased. Had Jonathan been in the tournament, this fish would have been one of the top 10 biggest fish caught for the entire weekend.
Here's a few pics of all the fun!
